OKNO is an intermedia series project by the violinist and composer ChatschaturKanajan. At its heart are the interactions between the diverse sounds (piano, violin, 7-string electric violin, synthesisers, percussion, field recordings) and the predominantly black-and-grey graphics (Chinese ink, chalk, pigments) on paper.
Kanajan developed a set of rules for drawing, enabling it to emerge as an unconscious process in conjunction with the music. In this way, drawing becomes a musical instrument in its own right and follows the simplest compositional techniques such as imitation, counterpoint, unison, hoquetus, etc. It is both a graphic score and a seismograph of sounds.
Launched in 2015 as an intimate home-based laboratory, the project involved other musicians and artists from the outset, including Natalia Pschenitschnikova, Antonis Anisegos, Dan Peter Sundland, Mathis Mayr and Thomas Henriksson. See on youtu.be

Between love and death lies a vast expanse of human experience: longing, devotion, loss, memory and transformation. In his new solo programme, Chatschatur Kanajan combines works from different centuries and cultures with his own compositions and improvisations.
Using the violin, percussion, guitar and voice, he creates a personal musical journey in which Baroque and contemporary music, composition and improvisation, and intimacy and expressiveness merge.
This is a concert about the fragility of life and the power of music to transcend the boundaries of time, language and memory.
